Rostelecom will provide the Moscow Government with M2M solution
Moscow, Russia – January 25, 2018 – Rostelecom PJSC (“the Company”) (MOEX: RTKM, RTKMP; OTCQX: ROSYY), Russia’s national telecommunications operator, today announces that it has signed the agreement with the IT Department of Moscow Government (“DIT”) on provision of services for telemetry transmission from public transport (M2M solution). The telemetry transmission project was jointly launched by DIT and Rostelecom in 2015. Since then, more than 15,000 of special vehicles have been equipped with the telemetry system for data transmission, covering 150 entities of the Moscow municipality, including snow plows, garbage trucks, street cleansers and other special and operational equipment. The telemetry allows the city authorities to monitor routes and incidents in order to eliminate them swiftly.
The operator will provide the transmission of the data related to navigation, fuel level, as well as the information on the functioning of the attachments and core components. The records will be sent to the Automated system of the Moscow Department of Housing and Communal Services and then stored on Rostelecom’s cloud platform. Moreover, the Company will provide installation and maintenance works for on-board navigation satellite systems on the city’s special repair machinery.
“The provision of timely and reliable telemetry data will allow for a regular monitoring of the city’s special machinery functioning. According to the contract with Rostelecom, operational faults and upsets will be addressed rapidly in order to ensure the needed maintenance support and repair”.
Telemetry data are transmitted through secured communication channels to the Automated system of the Moscow Department of Housing and Communal Services which, in its return, is in charge of the automated control of the operation. The data is then passed on to the regional navigation satellite system GLONASS. Rostelecom delivers telemetry data at around 1,300 data units per second, which is more than 110 mln per day. The working capacity for signal transmission assures functioning in the temperature range from -40 to +65°C.
“We are delighted to partner with DIT which has chosen Rostelecom’s software for the telemetry data transmission. In addition to hardware monitoring, the solution provides reliable safety of the telemetry data. Moreover, the system ensures operational readiness and capacity to address emergency issues: the majority of faults can be resolved from the operators’ work desks”.
The transfer of the telemetry maintenance to a sole operator allows for a significant reduction of costs and centralization of the control in a single pair of hands. The implementation of the system excludes practical possibility of data falsification, while the transport enterprises are provided with best-in-class telemetry data transmission services.
